According to an annual ranking in relocation industry publication Site Selection, the state of Texas has extended its run in attracting corporate facility investments.
In 2024, Texas had 1,368 new investment projects, an increase of 114. That easily topped second-place Illinois’ 664, Ohio’s third place finish with 565, and California, finishing fourth with 323 projects.
At the city level, the DFW Metroplex finished second behind Chicagoland. In 2024, the Dallas area had 489 new projects and Houston had 435, coming in third. Those markets helped lead Texas to the statewide title, known as the Governor’s Cup, for the 13th year.
These projects must meet certain parameters to qualify: private-sector investments that involve an investment of at least $1 million, the creation of at least 20 new jobs, or an expansion by at least 20,000 square feet of space.
Some significant Texas relocations in 2024 included the New York Stock Exchange's move from Chicago to Dallas, Fisher Investments moving its headquarters from Washington to Texas, and Chevron and Hewlett Packard Enterprise relocating to Houston. In addition, major financial services firms such as Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo are developing major office hubs in a Dallas area that is becoming known as “Y’all Street.”
Just two hours from Dallas is Tyler, which continues to emphasize higher education, infrastructure improvements and low cost of doing business to attract new and expanding industry.
